Carroll County Schools is at the heart of its community, building strong partnerships to ensure every student is ready for the workforce of tomorrow.

CATALYST: Carroll Area Transportation and Logistics Youth Simulation Training

Carroll County High School has introduced a groundbreaking program called CATALYST, designed to provide students with hands-on experience in high-demand technical fields. By combining innovative simulation technology with strong community partnerships, the initiative gives students a unique opportunity to gain skills that prepare them for the workforce of today and tomorrow.

Unlocking Opportunities for Every Student

The CATALYST program is opening doors for Carroll County students by offering real-world training experiences that many communities cannot provide. Students now have access to heavy equipment simulators that mirror the tools used by local industries, allowing them to practice and master technical skills before graduation. This pathway connects classroom learning with high-paying, high-demand careers in transportation, construction, warehousing, and logistics, ensuring every student has a chance to pursue success.

Measurable Growth, Meaningful Change

In its first year, the CATALYST program enrolled 15 to 20 students who are actively building critical workforce skills. Many of these students are pursuing their Commercial Driver’s License, a credential that dramatically improves their career opportunities. The simulator technology provides progress reports and real-time feedback, giving students the chance to refine their abilities through practice and repetition. These measurable steps are preparing students for meaningful careers that will benefit both their families and the Carroll County community.

Stronger Together: Partnerships Powering Success

This initiative is powered by deep collaboration between Carroll County Schools and local industries, including Nucor, Luhn & Oak, Kemper Construction, and Scott’s. These partners not only provided guidance in shaping the program but also opened pathways for student internships, co-ops, and potential employment. Their investment demonstrates a shared commitment to ensuring students graduate with practical skills that meet the needs of a growing workforce. Together, the district and its partners are strengthening the community’s economic and educational future.

The Road Ahead: What’s Coming Next

Looking ahead, Carroll County Schools plans to expand CATALYST beyond heavy equipment training to include pathways in transportation, construction, warehousing, and crane operation. These expansions will create even more opportunities for students to connect their skills with the demands of local employers. The district is also exploring ways for industry partners to use the simulator for retraining and professional development, ensuring this investment continues to benefit students and the broader community.

Shining a Light on Student Success

Students are already seeing success stories emerge from the CATALYST program. Dylan Service has gained valuable knowledge about safety and equipment operation that he knows will help him secure a job after graduation. Nahomy Lopez Perez, one of the program’s pioneering female participants, has shown determination in mastering the machines and has built confidence in her future career path. These stories highlight the real and immediate impact this initiative is having on student growth and success.
