Wayne County ATC: Securing Pathways to Tomorrow’s Jobs
Wayne County Schools is preparing students for the future with industry-aligned programs inside a state-of-the-art Area Technology Center.

Building Secure Pathways to Tomorrow’s Jobs

Wayne County Schools is transforming career readiness through its Area Technology Center (ATC), a 75,000-square-foot hub where students gain hands-on experience in high-demand fields. With modern equipment, strong industry partnerships, and legislative support that enhances safety and access, the district is building pathways that prepare every student for success in college, career, and community.

Unlocking Opportunities for Every Student

Students in Wayne County can choose from pathways like Welding, Automotive Technology, Health Science, Computer Science, Agriculture, and more—each designed to mirror real-world workplaces. With dual credit courses taught by ATC instructors serving as KCTCS adjunct faculty, students graduate with both experience and credentials that open doors to careers and college.

Measurable Growth, Meaningful Change

760 students are enrolled in ATC programs, with 86% of seniors graduating postsecondary ready. 160 students are registered for CTE dual credit in 2024–25. A targeted support model ensured 100% of students with IEPs passed their ATC courses. Health Science boasted a 100% pass rate on the 2025 Medical Nurse Aide exam, while Agriculture students are running a greenhouse supplying schools and nonprofits.

Stronger Together: Partnerships Powering Success

Partnerships with Somerset Community College, local industries, and workforce programs strengthen learning and credentialing opportunities. Legislative support—including KDE’s ATC funding, Perkins allocations, Work Ready scholarships, and HB 6 grants—has fueled these achievements, including a secure breezeway linking the ATC and high school.

The Road Ahead: What’s Coming Next

Wayne County is expanding work-based learning opportunities, increasing participation in non-traditional fields, and aligning programs with regional workforce needs to ensure every graduate is prepared for success.

Shining a Light on Student Success

From winning skills competitions to earning industry certifications, Wayne County students are proving their readiness for high-demand careers. Their hands-on experiences and dual credit pathways ensure they graduate with a head start on the future.
